Arsenal transfer deadline day: A brief history
One of the more remarkable transfers in recent years came in September 2013 when Arsenal not only signed a footballer, but a proper, absolutely top drawer one that you’d heard of, and everything. Admittedly, Arsenal being Arsenal, Mesut Ozil was exactly the sort of small, technically superb but essentially weedy attacking midfield type of which they already had dozens, but still. It was, after what felt like years of parsimony, an actual proper big-money grab.
